Local Volunteers

Volunteers from the local community are welcome and encouraged to become involved at Camphill Soltane. Students and residents benefit greatly from the work of volunteers, who bring new perspectives, skills, and energy into the community. In turn, being a volunteer is a richly rewarding experience!

Volunteers may serve as supporters in one or more of our many classes or work areas on a weekly basis; these volunteer assignments are based on the availability and interests of the volunteer, and on Soltane's needs for support. These volunteer assignments take place on weekdays between the hours of 9-5. (Left: a local volunteer assists in a Painting class)

Other volunteers are associated with particular households, and engage with those households on weekends for shared social time, outings, crafts, baking, etc.

There is also the possibility for volunteers to act as social activity partners for a student or resident. This is a one-to-one assignment based on personality and compatibility of the volunteer and the student or resident. Pairs independently decide how often to get together, and what to do during their shared social time. Activities could include talking, going out to eat or to catch a movie, taking a walk, playing a sport, or engaging in crafts.

Criteria and Admissions

Volunteers can serve during the morning, evening, or on the weekends. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, must consent to a background check, and must provide 2 personal references. Volunteers are asked to make at least a one year commitment to provide stability and continuity for the students, residents, classes, or households with whom they are volunteering. Volunteers must provide their own transportation to and from Camphill Soltane.
